Mr. ITETE MUGAGA Emmanuel

Partner

Emmanuel is an advocate at Fountain Advocates, where he made Partner since December 2020, having been with the firm since 2017. He is a registered and licensed member of the Rwanda Bar Association and the East Africa Law Society, a member (MCIArb) of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrator (CIArb) and, an Accredited Court Mediator with the Supreme Court of Rwanda.

He is also Assistant Lecturer at the University of Rwanda’s School of Law since 2015 where he teaches Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), Competition and Consumer Protection Law, Company law, General Commercial Law, Insolvency Law, Land Law and Labor Law, besides his supervising role at the University’s Center for Legal Aid and Mediation (CLAM) since 2015.

General Education

  • Emmanuel holds a bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Rwanda and a master’s degree in Commercial Law from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands. He also holds a post graduate diploma in Legal Practice from the Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD). His research interests mostly lie in ADR, Banking Law, Competition and Consumer Protection Law, Commercial Law, Integration Law, Intellectual Property Law, Law and Economics, M&A, and Sale and Carriage of Goods.

Expertise

    Rwanda and Region: Emmanuel has taken leading roles in many litigation cases including high value cases including before the Court of Appeal of the Republic of Rwanda. Besides, litigation, he also holds a rich experience and skills in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) where he has and continues to take key roles in arbitration cases including under the Kigali International Arbitration Center (KIAC). He has also registered success in commercial negotiation and mediation, where his latest honor is the humbling experience of serving as Judge and Observer in the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Commercial Mediation Competition 2022.

    With a combined experience of teaching and practicing law since 2015, Emmanuel has and continues to serve the Rwandan and Regional community, teaching, advising and representing our esteemed clients especially in the fields of Arbitration, Banking Law, Contract Law, Commercial Law, Construction Law, Company Law, Competition and Consumer Protection Law, Insolvency Law, Land Law, Labor Law, Intellectual Property Law, Mediation, and Sale and Carriage of Goods (Transport Law).
